A biopic depicting the early years of Swedish author Astrid Lindgren, the world's third most-translated children's writer, credited for more than 100 books, including Pippi Longstocking.
The teenaged Astrid Lindgren leads a carefree life with her family in rural Sweden. Eager to break free from her strict religious upbringing, she accepts an internship at a local newspaper where she attracts the attention of its editor, Blomberg. When she becomes pregnant, Astrid makes a momentous decision: she refuses to marry him and instead decides to take care of herself and her son Lasse on her own.
